Edward Smith, Annandale

Edward Smith, age 85, of Annandale died and went to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, August 23, 2005, at his residence.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 26, 2005, at the Silver Creek Community Church, Silver Creek, with Rev. Marlin Meendering officiating. The pallbearers will be Kevin, David, Chris, Ethan, Brady and Shawn Smith and the honorary pallbearers will be Mathew, Gabriel, Chad and Jamie Smith. Burial will follow in Lakeview Cemetery, Silver Creek Township, Wright County.

Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Thursday at the Dingmann Funeral Care Chapel, Annandale, and one hour prior to services at the church.

There will be a prayer service at 7 p.m. on Thursday.

Ed was born to John and Jenny (Mol) Smith in Maple Lake. He was a very kind man who was always willing to help anyone in need. He enjoyed visitors and loved to share his life experiences with others. As a child Ed helped his parents farm near Sugar Lake. In 1942 he was called to serve his country in the Armed Forces and with pride he did so for three years in Germany and France. Ed married Arlene Freiberg on November 6, 1942, in Oak Harbor, WA. After returning from the war, they farmed and raised a family of six children near Sugar Lake. Later, they sold the farm to their son and built a home nearby. Ed also worked for Hitchcock Industries for 22 years retiring in 1985.

Ed leaves to mourn his wife, Arlene of Annandale; children and their spouses, Gene and Fran of Maple Lake, Ernie and Carol of Annandale, Wen and Deloris of Farmington, Charles and Mary of Annandale, Douglas and Michelle of Maple Lake, Linda and John of Monticello; brother, Henry and his wife, Hester of Maple Lake; sister, Ann Kooiman of Richmond, VA; 17 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren, also many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
