Maple Lake School board welcomes new member

A new year brings with it many changes and among the local changes is a new face on the Maple Lake School Board.

Dennis Klug was elected to the board in November and took office in January, along with re-elected school board members Greg Mooney and Connie Munstenteiger.

Klug grew up on a family farm near Albany, and went on to college at the University of Minnesota, Morris, where he received a degree in Economics with a minor in Business Management. Klug and his wife, Tonya, moved to Maple Lake in the fall of 2000 with their three children: Hannah (10), Amber (6), and Jacob (2). Klug is employed as a divisional manager at Progressive Contractors Inc., based in St. Michael. P.C.I. is a highway contractor with divisions in concrete highway paving, bridge repair and excavation.

Klug began serving as a volunteer coach for school teams in 2001, coaching the ninth grade football team. In 2002, he coached the junior varsity with Tony Smith and coached varsity defense in 2003 and 2004. “Because of work constraints, I did not coach last year,” Klug said. “I do plan on helping out this coming season as a position coach.”

In his new duties as a member of the school board, Klug said, “It has been a learning experience. So far, it has been just trying to get up to speed with the rest of the board and learning about everyone connected to the school.”

But he looks forward to serving the Maple Lake community in his new role.  “Since my family and I moved to this district, I have always been impressed with the involvement and support the community gives to the school,” Klug said. “Combine that with the excellent staff in the district and it has been a pleasure living here.”
