Softball players earn All-State, All-Star honors

Traci Erger, Sarah Latour, Andrea Rachel, and Laura Dombrovski, teammates on the 2007 Irish softball team that won back-to-back CMC titles, recently received top softball honors for their performances throughout the season.

Last year, Lindsey Smith was the first female athlete from Maple Lake to represent Maple Lake High School at the Annual Minnesota State High School All-Star Softball Series. But this year, Maple Lake sent two athletes, senior infielders Traci Erger and Sarah Latour, to the All-Star Series at Rice Creek Park in Shoreview on Sunday, June 10.

Erger and Latour were two of the 88 athletes selected from over 6,000 high school softball players in Minnesota to compete with other top athletes and coaches from around the state in the All-Star Softball Series.

Erger, Rachel and Dombrovski were the three Maple Lake softball players earning All-State recognition. All-State Honorable Mention went to junior pitcher Laura Dombrovski, and Second Team All-State honors went to senior short-stop Traci Erger and junior catcher Andrea Rachel. Prior to 2007, only two softball players in MLHS history earned All-State honors: Samantha Schroeder in 2000 and Lindsey Smith in 2006.

In the All-Star softball tournament, players are chosen by the Minnesota High School Fastpitch Association based on nominations by coaches as well as personal achievements and successes. The athletes represent Minnesota’s premier softball players, and the tournament is an opportunity for the selected athletes and coaches to showcase their talent. Grouped into eight teams of 11 and led by two of the 16 top high school coaches, players participated in a 12-game tournament with each team playing three, five-inning games.
