Lakers perfect at 8-0

After yet another perfect week of baseball, the Maple Lake Lakers amateur baseball team bettered their record to a perfect 8-0 on the season. In their three games this week, they managed to pick up victories over Big Lake, Clear Lake, and Birdtown, all on their home field.

Maple Lake vs. Big Lake

On Wednesday, the 28th of May, The Lakers hosted the Big Lake Whitecaps. In the first inning of play, the Lakers took an early four-run lead. Coming around to score were Nate Johnson, Darin Decker, Mik Johnson, and Cody Decker. Keith Jerpseth provided the first RBI with a fielder's choice. A two-out double by C. Decker knocked in two more runs, and an additional single by Marcus Zahn scored C. Decker. Big Lake answered back in the bottom of the first with two of their own runs to make the score 4-2.

The Lakers stayed hot in the second inning, scoring an additional four runs. Six straight Lakers in the lineup reached the bases safely, starting with the top of their order. Jerpseth picked up his second RBI, M. Johnson his first, and C. Decker with his fourth after another two-out, two-run, base hit. The Lakers' defense saw only three batters in the bottom of the inning en-route to a three-up, three-down inning.

Maple Lake failed to produce any base runners in the third inning. In the bottom of the inning, Big Lake was able to manufacture one run on two hits.

After two walks and a double by M. Johnson, the Lakers were able to score two runs in the top of the fourth inning. Big Lake went down in the bottom of the inning with three straight outs.

After two early outs in the fifth inning, the Lakers managed two, two-out hits in a row to bring around N. Johnson to score. D. Decker had the RBI double. Both teams managed to score one more run apiece throughout the rest of the game, making the final score 12-4 in favor of the Lakers.

Ryan Klingelhofer was the winning pitcher after 6 innings of work as he scattered eight hits and didn't walk a single batter.
