Barbara Geyen, Maple Lake

Barbara M. Geyen, age 65, of Maple Lake, passed away after a short battle with cancer on Friday, April 26, 2013, at Abbott Northwestern Hospital, Minneapolis. Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 8, 2013, at Dingmann Funeral Care Chapel, Maple Lake. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Wednesday. Deacon Ron Freeman will officiate. Burial will follow at St. Timothy’s Catholic Cemetery. Barbara M. Geyen was born Aug. 12, 1947, in St. Cloud, to Donald and Evelyn (Wolfsteller) Geyen. Upon graduation from Maple Lake High School in 1965, Barb continued her education at College of St. Catherine in St. Paul where she earned her degree. Barb shortly worked for Gold Bond in Minneapolis before she began her career with Control Data. As a part of the Control Data team, Barb worked in Minneapolis before relocating to Exton, Pa., where she resided the past 20 years. Upon her retirement in October of 2012, Barb moved back home to be closer to family. Barb enjoyed sitting by the lake and enjoyed the quiet times she could bird watch and read books near Marsh Creek in Pennsylvania. She loved to read, travel the shore and visit the Amish countryside. Barb remained an avid sports fan. She enjoyed watching football, mostly the Vikings, and she enjoyed cheering on the Minnesota Twins. She is survived by her siblings: Mary (Glen) Heller, of Waverly; Donna (Terry) Miller, of Live Oak, Texas; Jerry (Selma), of Maple Lake; Billy, of Baton Rouge, La.; and Patti (Jerry) Kranz, of Buffalo; nieces and nephews: Scott Geyen, Chad Heller, Ryan Heller, Brooke and Jena Geyen, Kassie, Kyle and Kory Kranz, and Carl Geyen; two great nieces, Lita and Zoe. Barb is preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, siblings, Diane, Gene, Bob and Jim Geyen. Krista Elsenpeter-Tarbox and Sarah Goelz will provide music for the service.
