Baseball goes 1-2, defeats Lakers 4-2

On Monday, April 18, the Maple Lake Irish baseball team traveled to Litchfield for a non-conference game against the Dragons. It was a battle for both teams but the Irish fell in a close game 2-1, picking up their second loss of the season thus far.
“Offensively we struggled,” said Coach Tony Smith. “We played good defense and the pitchers threw well.”
The team couldn’t seem to get any kind of offense going throughout the game, which in turn led to the loss. The team scored their first and only run of the game in the top of the seventh inning, when back-to-back errors allowed Derek Rachel and Jake Johnson to reach first and second base.  Rachel was then able to score off of a Josh Serfas single.
On the mound for the Irish was Johnson who threw five innings, allowing five hits, and two runs.  In relief was Justin Bidwell who threw one inning, allowing one hit and zero runs.
