Bernice M. Marohn, Annandale

Bernice M. Marohn, age 75, of Annandale, died Tuesday, July 31, 2012, at Sunrise Cottages, Buffalo. Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 4, at Zion Lutheran Church, Annandale, with Rev. Thomas Queck officiating. Burial followed at Pleasantview Cemetery, Annandale. Visitation was at the church from 5-8 p.m., Friday and Saturday, one hour prior to services. There was a prayer service 7 p.m. Friday. Bernice Mary Marohn was born October 19, 1936, to Leo and Helen (Flatoff) Zurawski in Stevens Point, WI. She was baptized on October 25, 1936, at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church and graduated from P.J. Jacobs High School, Stevens Point, in 1954; then later in life earned a Bachelor’s Degree from St. Cloud State University. She married Marvin Marohn on December 31, 1955, and they resided in Annandale where she worked with Marv in his produce business and later in the grocery business. She helped build Marv’s Red Owl from the ground up beginning with mixing the cement for the building. She worked in the produce and health and beauty departments or wherever she was needed. She had a heart for homeless animals and did foster care for many kittens and puppies. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church where she was confirmed on September 25, 1956, was a member of the choir and taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. In 2005 she and Marv received the Minneapolis Aquatennial Commodore’s Award for their volunteerism and contributions to the community. Bernice had a strong faith in her Savior and passed that on to her greatest treasure, her family. Her children and grandchildren were truly her delight and joy. She is survived by her husband, Marvin of Annandale; children and their spouses, Julie and Ronald Starke of Annandale, Robert and Valerie Marohn of Annandale, Matthew and Vicki Marohn of Maple Lake; grandchildren, Michael and Jill Starke, Madilyn and Tanner Marohn, Holly and Maxwell Marohn; sisters-in-law, Nora Bell of Wayzata, Audrey “Peachy” and Lou Zurawski of Stevens Point, and brother-in-law, Lawrence Calderone of Eagle River, AK. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers and sisters, Theodore and Leonard Zurawski, Esther Orr, Irene Krasavage, and Emily Calderone; brothers-in-law and sister-in-law, Marcus and Viva Strohschein, Duane Bell, Casimir Krasavage, and Herbert Orr. The pallbearers were Jonathan and David Strohschein, Scott Douglas, and Michael Starke. The honorary pallbearers were Jill Starke, Madilyn, Tanner, Holly and Maxwell Marohn, and Steven Orr. The music for the service was provided by Diane Johnson, organist and Laura Thurk, soloist. The arrangements were entrusted to Dingmann Funeral Care of Annandale.
