Boys’ basketball gets win, first loss

On December 7, the Maple Lake Irish boys’ basketball team hosted the Royalton Royals. The Irish picked up their second victory of the season by a score of 52-38.
From the opening tip-off to the final buzzer the Irish were on top.  The Irish played man-to-man defense and shot about 25 percent better than the Royals going into the locker room for halftime, leading the game by a score of 30-16.
In the second half the Irish held their lead, with both teams scoring 22 points. Despite having 22 turnovers throughout the game, the Irish still came out on top.
“We played very well at times and not very well at times. We need to do a better job taking care of the ball,” said Coach Tim Staloch.
