Boys win St. John’s meet, Irish girls take third

The Irish track teams left the school early on Friday, May 6, going on their way to one of the last regular season meets at St. John’s Prep.
“The St. John’s Invitational was a blast. It’s fun to go to the best track facility in the area on a Friday night and not have to worry about going to school the next morning,” said Head Coach Ben Youngs.
Even though the lineup was not set up to maximize points, the Irish ended the meet with impressive results, the girls placing third while the boys took first.
“As for the season, that’s pretty much it for the regular season.  There will be the make-up Maple Lake Lions Invitational on Thursday, May 12, but other than that there are just the big meets left: true team, conference, and sub-sections,” said Youngs. “We have tried kids in all kinds of events to get ready for these big meets, and they are finally here. This is what we work all season for, so we hope the kids are ready to go.”
The girls’ team continues to improve during each meet with Courtney Pribyl taking third in the 300m hurdles and consistently lowering her time for the third meet in a row. Also contributing to the third-place finish for the girls, were Anna Thiele and the 4×800 team. Thiele high jumped 4’ 6” as the lone Irish high jumper. Taking second in the 4×800 meter relay also added points to the final score of the Irish.
