Howard ‘Howie’ Linstrand, Le Mars

Howard “Howie” Linstrand, 85, of Le Mars, formerly of Maple Lake, Minnesota, passed away Saturday, June 2, 2012, at the Good Samaritan Society in Le Mars, Iowa. His funeral was at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 5, 2012, at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Brunsville, Iowa with Pastor Ben Worley officiating. Interment with military honors provided by the Herren-McHale-Wilken American Legion Post of Brunsville was at Memorial Cemetery in Le Mars. Pallbearers were Scott Linstrand, Todd Bates, Tom Linstrand, Warren Bielke, Richard Erdahl, and John Swisher. Honorary casket bearers were Bob Linstrand, David Linstrand, Johnny Rudberg, Diane Pike, Janet Salmey, Carrie Linstrand, and Tanya Bates. Visitation was from 9 a.m. until service time at the church. Howard Warren Linstrand was born October 10, 1926, in Minneapolis, to Carl and Eleanor (Klausing) Linstrand. He was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Minneapolis. “Howie,” as he was known to family and friends, attended school in Minneapolis. He served his country in the United States Army during World War II from February 12, 1945, until his Honorable Discharge on November 16, 1946. He returned to Minneapolis and began his career at DeVAC. He worked at this aluminum window manufacturer until retirement in the 1990s. Shortly after retiring, Howie moved to a home on the shores of Maple Lake, Minnesota. Howie enjoyed building and flying model planes, sail boating, fishing with friends and family and hunting. He enjoyed the visits from his nieces and nephews through the years. After his brother, Gordon, passed away, Howie enjoyed the continued visits from his nephew, Scott, and his family. A tradition that continued with Scott and Peggy’s children today. Howie enjoyed watching and following the Minnesota Twins and Vikings. Howie moved from Maple Lake to Le Mars in August of 2009. Survivors include his nieces and nephews: Scott and Peggy Linstrand of Le Mars and their children, Tanya (Todd) Bates and Carrie Linstrand, David and Pam Linstrand of Eugene, Oregon, Bob and Lori Linstrand of New Brighton, Minnesota, Tom and Sue Linstrand of Le Mars, Janet and Jerry Salmey of Inver Grove Heights, MN, and Diane Pike of Le Mars; several great nieces and nephews; a special cousin, Warren, and Mid Bielke of Eden Prairie, MN; and many special friends and neighbors from Maple Lake. Howie was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Eleanor (Klausing) Linstrand; two brothers, Carl and Lynnea Linstrand and Gordon and Marlis Linstrand.
