The Maple Lake Irish girls traveled to Zimmerman for a key subsection matchup on Tuesday, February 15, to take on the Thunder.
Zimmerman plays in the tough Mississippi 8 Conference, so the Irish knew they had their work cut out for them.
The game got underway and found both teams playing aggressive man-to-man defense with neither team looking real sharp on the offensive end.
“We struggled to score on the offensive end in the first half, but played tough on defense throughout the game,” said Head Coach Adam Ronnenberg.
The halftime score was 20-15 with the Irish in the lead. Coming out to start the second half, the Irish were not satisfied and looked to ramp up the intensity by applying some full-court pressure.
“I think we jumped out to a 15-2 run to start the second half, which really set the tone for the rest of the game,” said Ronnenberg. With a final score of 53-34, Ronnenberg continued, “It was a good win for the girls.”
The Irish snapped a six game losing streak with the win and are eyeing the subsection playoffs with the potential of a first round home playoff game.
