Irish win Homecoming contest

 On Friday night, Sept. 30, the Irish hosted Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa for the annual Homecoming game. Maple Lake played well and won the game 32-18.
   The Irish came out slowly and were outscored 10-0 in the first quarter, but bounced back strong in the second quarter by scoring 21 unanswered points.  
The first touchdown was scored by senior running back Dedrek Berndtson, who put his head down and punched the ball over the goal line for six, followed by an extra point from senior kicker Forrest Coughlin.

The next drive was set up by an interception from Joe Mooney, putting the Irish in good position for another score. After a few hard runs, junior quarterback Donnie Mavencamp hit Mooney in stride for an 18-yard touchdown completion, followed by another catch by Mooney for the two-point conversion.
