Legion baseball season underway

The 2011 Maple Lake Legion baseball season kicked off on Thursday, June 9, when the boys traveled to Mound for a tough opener.
Maple Lake was up to bat first as Mound took the field. Four batters stepped up to the plate, but after being thrown out at first two times and a fly ball to center field, the top of the first ended with no Maple Lake runs.
The second innning was much like the first with neither team able to score. In the top of the third, however, Maple Lake scored the first run of the game. Bosten Fieldseth was up to bat, and was walked by the Mound pitcher. He continued to make his way around the bases off of passed balls. Finally, Brian Redemske made a sacrifice out that allowed Fieldseth to reach home plate.
The fourth, fifth, and sixth innings were marked with fly balls, and outs at first base for both teams.
In the bottom of the seventh, Mound was able to sneak in two runs after their batters went on a hitting streak of singles.
Maple Lake fought hard in the eighth and ninth innings, but was unable to score any more runs. The game ended with a score of 2-1 in favor of Mound.
