Legion team gets win over STMA

A rainy week nearly kept the Maple Lake Legion baseball team from playing last week. They were lucky enough to dodge the rain on Monday, June 20, when they played St. Michael-Albertville, but their game on Tuesday, June 21, against Rogers was cancelled. Despite the soggy field, Maple Lake was able to pull off a win against STMA.
The game began with STMA up to bat and Maple Lake in the field. St. Michael was pushing home plate with batters on 1-3, but Maple Lake stepped up their defense, getting the last outs they needed to put themselves up to bat.
Brian Redemske led off with a flyball to the shortstop. Up next was Luke Fobbe with a single. Unfortunately, Maple Lake fell to the STMA pitcher during the remainder of the inning.
The second and third innings were much like the first for St. Michael-Albertville. With the bases loaded, Maple Lake would make those crucial last outs.
Maple Lake also struggled to score in the second and third innings, but the game picked up in the fourth inning when both teams reached home plate.
Three singles in a row allowed a St. Michael-Albertville batter to score the first run of the game and earning them the lead.
In the bottom of the fourth, Fobbe was up to bat first and was walked, followed by Cameron Knudsen with a single. Mitch Wurm’s single sent Fobbe home, tying the game at 1-all.
The fifth inning brought in another run for Maple Lake when Zach Stokman got on base due to an error by the STMA catcher and moved around the bases as Fobbe and Knudsen were walked.
