In their final dual of 2010, the Annandale-Maple Lake Lightning notched another victory. This time the win came against Wright County Conference opponent Delano by a 58-17 margin Tuesday, Dec. 21, at Delano.
“We wrestled a great match in both our wins and losses,” coach Jason Bartels said.
The weather the previous day had canceled after-school activities and practices, which can be tough for wrestlers as they prepare for a match the next day.
The Lightning, however, took the change in stride and put forth a strong winning effort.
“Their lineup was a little thin and we picked up several forfeit wins, which helped our effort,” Bartels said.
The Tigers wrestled a couple of junior varsity matches where they had forfeits on the varsity, while the Lightning shifted wrestlers up in a couple of weights.
Nick Anderson at 125 pounds had an impressive win by slapping an 11-second pin on Delano’s Kooper Anderson–a pin that quick could hold up for end-of-the-year honors.
The next two A-ML wrestlers followed with pins as well.
“Tyler Pipo (130) and Alex Couette (140) just got it done,” Bartels said. “We have stressed a business-like approach with the guys this year and these two young men were a great example of this against Delano.”
The Lightning picked up a fall at 145 pounds and a major decision at 160 along with multiple forfeit wins throughout the dual.
