Lightning upset Mound

The Annandale-Maple Lake Lightning wrestlers traveled to Mound-Westonka on Thursday, December 15, to compete in a conference meet.
With a handful of talented wrestlers on the opposing team, Annandale-Maple Lake hoped to keep their competitors to earning few points.
“Our strategy was to limit the amount of bonus points that our opponent’s better wrestlers could possibly gain against us,” said Head Coach Jason Bartels. “On the other hand, we were hoping to maximize the amount of bonus points from our wrestlers.”
Even with a depleted starting lineup and lack of depth, the Lightning’s team effort to carry out this tactic was successful. Bartels said, “Thankfully, we were able to accomplish both, which decided the dual.” The Lightning ended the meet with a 39-31 victory over Mound-Westonka.
