Volleyballers bounce back with win

Brooklyn Toedter gets a kill against two Eagle defenders in the Irish girls’ bounceback win at Eden Valley Watkins.

Keeping the crowd on their toes, the Irish played in an exciting game against the Eden Valley-Watkins Eagles on Thursday, Sept. 12.
“The whole game was super fun to play in and even when I wasn’t on the court it was exciting to watch,” junior Chloe Callahan said. “It was also nice to see some girls step up when they got to play.”
Starting the match, the Irish came out strong. They had tough serves that stayed consistent throughout the whole match. The Eagles struggled to handle the serves and couldn’t return the ball, which led to a 25-18 Irish win in game one.
Game two, the closest of the three, proved to be a challenge for the Irish. Powerful serves continued to help Maple Lake, as did a steady defense.  Being able to pass well and return hits from the Eagles, the Irish kept pressure on their opponents.
The Irish set up many plays but the Eagles did well to block their hitters and the Irish struggled to recover the ball up front, which kept Eden Valley-Watkins in the game. With both teams playing well, the Irish showed their determination to win in the end, 26-24, over the Eagles.
