During Homecoming week, the Irish raced at St. John’s Prep on Thursday. Although the course was a little rough, it was like running through a forest of many beautiful colors from the fall trees. All Maple Lake teams finished with great times and can proudly say Homecoming was a success.
In lane four, the Irish girls varsity waited on the line along with 13 other teams ready to start the race. The girls were up against some good competition, but they went out strong and ran their race. Taking off leading the team was Halle Geyen.
Racing through the winding trails the runners packed together like a giant herd. Up with the front of the pack, Geyen ran competitively, racing hard and coming across the finish line in fifth place with a time of 16:28. Finishing second for Maple Lake was Sommer Carlson in seventh place, with a time of 16:36. Next was Kayla Hoistad, finishing in 14th with an end time of 17:35. Placing 21st with a time of 17:57 was Katelyn Kramer and Skyler Manka followed in 27th with a completed time of 18:23. Mollie Graham crossed the finish line in 18:40, placing 31st and Jessie Wohlrabe came in 40th, completing her race in 19:19. Overall the girls took second behind St. Cloud Tech with a complete team score of 74 points.
As temperatures rose back up into the 80s, the Irish boys varsity set the heat aside and focused on their race. Racing against 134 runners, the boys pushed through the pack, making their way to the front.
