Irish boys go 3-3


Nick Gapinski pitched six innings against Rockford in his first startof the season.

 

On Tuesday, May 13, the Maple Lake baseball team traveled to Kimball for a double header against the Cubs and came away with two wins, winning game one 14-1 in 5 innings and game two 11-8. The two wins pushed the Irish back into a first place tie in the conference with HL-W-W and Rockford with three games left. Over the course of the two games there were multiple Irish players that collected more than two hits against the Cubs’ pitching.  
“It was one of those days where we had great at bats, and really, it seemed everyone hit the ball well.  Even the outs we made seemed to be hit hard, it was fun to watch,” coach Brad Baumann said.  
In game one, Landon Caughey got the win, going four innings, giving up one earned run on two hits and five strikeouts. Nick Gapinski pitched one inning, retiring all three batters he faced.  
In game two, Nick Preisinger got the win, going 4 1/3 innings, giving up seven runs (three earned) on eight hits with eight strikeouts. Sullivan Graham came in and got the save, going 1 2/3 innings and giving up one unearned run on three hits with three strikeouts.
