Minnesotan in training

Wow.
Those three letters sum up how I feel about how the community supported Trevor Pribyl’s family on Sunday afternoon, but I’ll still use more words.
Words like amazing, awesome, caring, compassionate, generous and kind.  Those words barely scratch the surface in describing the community and the outpouring of support.
Hearing about how a community is close-knit and experiencing it are two different things and the latter was certainly on display Sunday. Yes, the community opened their wallets to show their support. More importantly, though, is how much the community has opened their hearts and saved a special place for the Pribyls.
One way I’ve noticed that is through following Trevor’s mom, Rachel, on Facebook. Whenever she posts news about Trevor, at least 100 people like and/or comment on those status updates.
In checking those status updates, I am always impressed with how positive Rachel and the whole Pribyl family are. I’ve learned quickly that Rachel enjoys sharing that positive energy through her involvement with youth wrestling and her new position as volunteer coordinator at St. Timothy’s School. She’s always going above and beyond to support the community and the community returns that support, as evidenced by things like Sunday’s benefit.
I was so excited when Tonya Klug told me she wanted the community to do this for the Pribyls. We happened to run into each other at the post office when Tonya said she was going to need some help with it. She bounced ideas off me and vice versa.
And it grew from there. Before we knew it, several facets were added into the equation, each of them adding to the success of the event. I think it’s safe to say it became even bigger than Tonya had initially envisioned, largely due to the people who stepped up to help.
On Sunday, all the hard work paid off and everything came to fruition. And it showed exactly what kind of community Maple Lake is.
