Boys hockey wins one, loses one

The Monticello-Annandale-Maple Lake boys hockey team rebounded from a disappointing loss to Rogers, Thursday, Dec. 18, at home by going on to defeat a tough Becker-Big Lake team two days later, Saturday, Dec. 20, also on the Moose’s home ice.
Rogers slipped by the Moose 3-2 Thursday and on Saturday, Becker lost 5-2 to the home team.
“It was a great team effort,” Coach Sheldon Weston said after the games.
After a scoreless first period, Thursday, the Moose broke open the scoring 19 seconds into the second period when Hunter Nogren found the back of the net on an even-strength goal, assisted by Nick Zwack.
The Moose held off the Royals until 6:59 into the second when Dustin Schoepke slipped a puck past M-A-ML goalie Nathan Isaacson with help from Jake Hellickson and Vinny Billing of Rogers.
Then at 16:30, Maple Lake’s McRae Haney tied things up with another even-strength goal, assisted by Jaden Jarmuzek to give the Moose a 2-1 lead going into the second period.
M-A-ML led until 4:23 in the third period when Rogers’ Trent Frederickson found the back of the net with help from Billing to tie it up 2-2. Another goal by Rogers’ Sam Libke, assisted by Shane Smith, put them in the lead and that’s where the score stayed.
Isaacson took the loss for the Moose. He had 44 saves that night.
