Lakers finish the season in round eight at State

The Maple Lake Lakers came up short in their bid for another state championship but managed to play some great baseball along the way. Chad Raiche hit .500, collecting nine hits, six RBIs, one run, two doubles, and a home run to earn a spot on the Class C All-Tournament team. Jeremy Schmidt joined him by pitching 25 innings with a 0.36 ERA, giving up 10 hits, one walk, one run, and one earned run with 24 strikeouts to give him three wins. The Lakers were cheered on by massive crowds for all of their games.

Saturday, September 3rd, saw a showdown between two Laker squads that were playing great baseball. Waconia, picked by some writers to win it all, won a tough Region 7 and had cruised to victory in their previous game. Maple Lake was coming in hot, though, having slugged 14 runs in their last two games and the action did not disappoint.
The Laker offense was unable to get much going until runs in the fourth and fifth innings gave starter Jeremy Schmidt some room to breathe. Schmidt did not need much room as he cruised through the Waconia lineup, going all nine innings and giving up six hits against eight strikeouts. Todd Fuller had a double, single, RBI, and run while Luke Fobbe belted a triple and scored thanks to a McRae Haney hit.
