Runners place second and fifth

Eighth grader Gus Demarais approaches the finish line at Kimball. She led the Irish girls team to second place with her third-place finish at the EV-W-K meet.

From left, Tanner Severson and Gabe Smail stuck together until the finish line at Kimball last week. Severson was 37th and Smail was 36th.

The Maple Lake girls and boys cross country teams were second and fifth, respectively, Monday, Oct. 10, at Eden Valley-Watkins-Kimball.
Both teams looked a little tired going into Monday’s race, coach Ben Youngs said. They were coming off a Thursday, Oct. 6th, meet at Litchfield and a busy homecoming weekend. The boys were also running without a few regulars due to sickness and injury.
Gus DeMarais finished third overall in 21:29 to lead the varsity girls team; Halle Geyen finished 12th in 22:18; Eva McClelland was 16th in 23:02; Margaret Graham was 20th in 23:46; Kate Graham was 21st in 23:50; Bionca Peterson was 27th in 24:53; Caitlin Weege was 30th in 25:07 and Rachel Loch was 33rd in 26:14.
