The Maple Lake football team is headed to the Section 4AA finals, Saturday, Nov. 5, at St. Cloud State University for a shot at state after two wins last week.
On Tuesday, Oct. 25, the No. 2 seed Irish overcame No. 7 seed Minneapolis Edison 54-14 to advance to the second game of the tournament where Maple Lake met No. 3 seed Spectrum.
“Playing Spectrum was like playing ourselves. We both run the same offense,” coach Tim Knudsen said after the Irish pulled off a 20-18 overtime win.
Logan McCollough started the scoring on a rainy Tuesday night at home against Minneapolis Edison when he ran in a touch down and completed the two-point conversion to give the Irish an 8-0 lead.
Maple Lake jumped to a 16-0 lead on another McCollough touch down run and two-point conversion to give the Irish a 22-8 edge with 10 minutes left in the first half.
