MLHS students experience Spain

Fourteen local students traveled across the sea to experience the Spanish culture, first-hand, for two weeks.

Maple Lake High School Spanish students left on March 15 to visit two countries, several cities and create hundreds of memories on a trip abroad.

The junior and senior students travelled to Madrid, Segovia, Toledo and Barcelona, Spain. At the end of the trip, the group stopped in Paris, France.

This is the fourth year that high school Spanish teacher Kim Fynboh has taken a group of students abroad to help teach them the Spanish language and culture.

The group went site-seeing and exploring in Spain’s capital city, Madrid. The group also visited Segovia before heading to Toledo.

Fynboh said that on their way to Toledo, the group had to purchase train tickets. She said she reminded the students which train they would take and how to purchase tickets and told the students to purchase their own tickets to Toledo.

“It proved to them that they could use their spanish,” Fynboh said. “It gave many of them the confidence that ‘yeah I can do this.'”

Fynboh said this was a good test before the students continued on to Barcelona where they split up to live with local host families.

The students spent a few days living with a family and experiencing life as as a Spaniard.

“We had great family stays,” Fynboh said.
