Band Boosters plan Applebee's fundraiser

The Maple Lake Band Boosters will be hosting a fundraiser on Saturday, Nov. 19, at Applebee’s in Buffalo. The Applebee’s Flapjack Fundraiser from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. will raise funds to help send band students on a trip to Boston/New York in July of 2012. The band will be representing Maple Lake in parades in Randolf, MN, and Bristol, NY. Pre-sale Applebee’s tickets can be purchased from any band student and that student will earn $5 for their trip account. Drama class to perform 'Shun the Heaven'

The serious drama, “Shun the Heaven,” written by Alan Haehnel and produced by special arrangement with Playscripts, Inc., is this year’s fall play presented by the MLHS drama class. In a small rural town in the south live two simple-minded fifteen-year-old girls. Under the guidance of their mother and the local reverend, the girls discover they have a unique gift. Their gift provokes greed and exploitation from those around them, with damaging results. Curtain: 7:01 p.m. on Nov. 10, 11, and 12. Tickets are available at the door. Members of Mary Beth Barder’s class involved in the production are: Tom Piram, Jenna Anderson, Bernadette Loch, Amber Dale, Jill Boros, Alyssa Maher, Miranda Jordan, Nina Simonette, Ben Hudek, Dakota Decker, Shelby Lengyel, Leah Pumarlo, and Kyle Jackson.

School Fall Break is Oct. 20-21

St. Timothy’s School and Maple Lake Public Schools will be closed on Thursday and Friday, Oct. 20 and 21, for the annual fall break. Class- es will resume on Monday, Oct. 24.

Halloween Carnival set for Oct. 29

The 36th Annual Halloween Carnival, hosted by Partners in Educa- tion at Maple Lake Elementary, is set to run from 3 to 5 p.m. on Satur- day, Oct. 29. The event for children in sixth grade and younger will fea- ture a wide variety of games, a costume contest, and prizes for guessing how much the treasure chest holds. All children must be accompanied by an adult.

5-6 Grade Band Concert is Dec. 15

The two elementary bands will be presented in concert on Thursday, Dec. 15. The 5th grade, directed by Molly Jones, will play all Christmas songs. Then each section will play a selection of music to showcase their instruments. The 6th grade, directed by Jordan Swiontek, will perform three pieces, with the final piece a holiday song to end the show. The program will be presented at 6:30 p.m. in the high school auditorium.

This year’s senior high choir, directed by Sue Nelson, will be performing a number of songs which include: “Festival Fan Fair,” “No Need to Knock,” “Soulful Silent Night,” and a selection of carols. The choir will end the concert with “It’s Christmas and All of That Jazz.” The performance will be free and open to the public on Thursday, December 15, at 8 p.m. in the high school auditorium.

Grades 1-3 Holiday Program is Dec. 8

  This year’s program for students first through third grades at Maple Lake Elementary is “A Celebration of the Season” directed by vocal music instructor Pat Johnson and accompanied by Krista Elsenpeter. It will be presented on Thursday, December 8, at 6:30 p.m. in the high school auditorium. Grade 1 will be singing “Five Plump Turkeys,” “Christmas Day,” and “The Babe.” Grade 2 will sing “Light the Candles,” “Suzie Snowflake,” and “Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer.” Grade 3 will follow with “Silver Bells,” “Joyous Noel,” and “Winter Wonderland.”
