Four lucky students ride to school in a M.L.F.D. fire truck

These students were winners of the Fire Truck Ride as part of our February "I Love to Read" month. If students brought in their required reading minutes on their "Experiment with Reading" calendar, they were entered into a drawing for the fire truck ride. These students were picked up at home and got to ride all the way to school in the fire truck. Thank you to the Maple Lake Fire Department for hosting this ride. Black bear sighting northwest Maple Lake

Gordon Henry, 6780 Gowan Ave., Corinna Twp., and his wife, Patty, saw this black bear on their property Sunday night about 7:30-8:00 p.m.
He said seeing a black glob where there wasn’t supposed to be anything was his first inkling of identifying the bear.
Henry said he got his camera, which he acknowledged was an inexpensive model, and took several photos of the animal as it left his property.
“I parked my vehicle on the township road hill after I spotted the bear in the brush and swamp. It stood on its hind legs when a pickup came by and the truck kept it from crossing the road into the Frank Hogan property,” he said. It eventually crossed the road as is shown in the lower photo.

Maple Lake Boy Scouts Volunteer at True Friends

During National Volunteer Week, Boy Scouts from the Maple Lake troop helped TrueFriends get ready for their spring season. The Scouts cleared brush along horseback riding paths and cleaned up around the new horse stables. These Scouts are working to earn their Citizenship in the Community Merit badge, which involves community service and other projects designed to help Scouts learn about and contribute to their community. For more information, contact: Al Loch, Scoutmaster; Bob Tollefson, Assistant Scoutmaster; John Northenscold, Merit Badge Counselor.
