Maple Lake High School honored for yearbook excellence

The Maple Lake High School yearbook staff has been recognized by Balfour Yearbooks with an honorable mention certificate of recognition for its outstanding contribution to scholastic journalism. The Maple Lake High School yearbook is included in the 2012 YearbookYearbook. The yearbook adviser is Jean Elsenpeter. “Good yearbooks capture the history of the year in words and pictures. To be recognized by Balfour in YearbookYearbook, your book isn’t just good, it’s great. It relates stories that the students obviously wanted to share. Those stories, told through words and photographs, evoke an experience in the readers, taking them back to a game, a dance or a rehearsal. It’s a magical experience. It was magical when the book came out, and it will retain its magic 50 years from now. Your staff’s commitment to creating a yearbook that is both meaningful and memorable has made it one of the best in the nation,” Judi Coolidge, education specialist said.

School receives good news on state assessments

The Minnesota Comprehensive Assessment (MCA) scores for the 2011-2012 school year are in. These test results were recently released by the Minnesota Department of Education. At the regular meeting of the Maple Lake School Board on August 13, the board reviewed the 2012 test score information presented by principals Kris Harlan and Andy Almos. Superintendent Mark Redemske showed a comparison spreadsheet with testing data of District 881 students’ test scores in math, reading and writing. Every cell in both buildings made the grade with math scoring exceptionally well compared to state average. Almost all average Maple Lake scores exceed average state scores, with the exception of 11th grade math falling just below. Redemske voiced that he is not satisfied with the state’s measurement for math. Almos said, “Statistics of academic rigor are set high.” Almos reported good news to the board, along with some changes.
