MLHS participates in College Application Week

To assist students in preparing and applying to college, Maple Lake High School will participate in the statewide College Application Week held November 12-16, 2012. As part of this initiative, MLHS will work with its seniors throughout the week to complete and submit at least one online application. The goal of the program is to get more students applying to college. During this event students may apply to any two-year or four-year college/university or training program in which they are interested. During this week many Minnesota colleges/universities are offering free applications. School counselor Judy Sloneker will be available in the commons area during senior lunches all week. St. Tim's presents annual Extravaganza

The annual St. Timothy’s Shopping Extravaganza is set for Saturday, November 10, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the school gym. The event will include student-made crafts and school calendars as well as sales from vendors that includes Arbonne, BeautiControl, Pampered Chef, Thirty-one, Avon, The Book Guyz of Minnesota, Handmade Rosaries, Premier Jewelry, Tastefully Simple, Tupperware, Scentsy, Doll Clothes, Wildtree, Homemade Gifts, St. Patrickʼs Books & Gifts, kika Paprika, MN Lamb & Wool Products, Mary Kay, and the Scholastic Book Fair. MLHS Drama class to perform 'Around the World in 8 Plays' Nov. 15-17

The Maple Lake Drama class will be performing the play “Around the World in 8 Plays” on November 15, 16, and 17. The dates were changed to allow students to attend MLHS volleyball games at the state tournament this week. The comedy involves 8 mini performances all involving ridiculous plotlines and crazy characters. The stories travel all around the world from South America in “The Lost Beads” to the land of the Arapaho people in “The Little Owl Boy.” The curtain opens at 7:01 sharp. Student performers are: Jenna Anderson, Kyle Hickman, Luciano Saucedo, Miranda Jordan and Amber Dale, Maria Zaske, Zach Johnson, Jill Boros, Bernadette Loch, Chelsie Weege, Caleb Gindele, Courtney Klingelhoets, Rebecca Loch, Maddie Nelson, Kaitlin Loch, Hailee Malachek, Lexy Medley, and Jada Anderson.

St. Tim's students attend fire safety program

The elementary students from St. Timothyʼs School (1st-3rd) spent the first week of October learning more about fire prevention and fire safety during National Fire Safety Week. Firefighters John Peterson and Scott Carriveau arrived at the school parking lot with, not one but two, fire trucks. It was a beautiful afternoon and the students sat around the trucks as they were given an informative talk on fire safety relevant to grade school children. They learned important tips in case of a fire such as having an exit strategy in place; keeping low to the ground; planning a meeting place after leaving a burning building; and Carriveau especially stressed never going back into a burning building for any reason. “We can always get another pet,” he said, “but we can never get another you!” Students said they especially enjoyed the demonstration of special fire gear, the tour of the trucks, and the question/answer time. “It was hilarious to see Mrs.

Connie K. Cruikshank Ladwig, Paynesville

Connie K. Cruikshank Ladwig, 49 of Paynesville, passed away peacefully at home, November 5, with her loving husband of 26 years by her side, after a courageous battle with ALS. She was a long-time employee of Contract Hardware Company, Inc. Proceeded in death by mother, Sharon; brother, Ronald. Survived by husband, Ed; loving dog, Guiness; father, Robert, and wife, Ann; sister, Kelly; sisters-in-law, Laurie, Sister Joanne, Marilyn (Allan), Marge, Patty, Janet; nieces and nephews, Ann, Suzanne, Alicia, Heidi, Aaron, Shannon, Bahia, Abigail, Emily, Madeline, Rachael, JJ, Lauren, Maya. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, November 10, with visitation starting at 9:30 a.m. at St. Louis Catholic Church, Paynesville. In lieu of flowers memorials preferred to the ALS Association.

St. Timothy’s School and Maple Lake Public Schools will be closed on Monday, Nov. 5, due to teacher workshops. School will resume on Tuesday, Nov. 6.

Halloween Carnival draws a costumed crowd

Maple Lake Elementary provided a warm and safe place for children and families to gather for the 37th Halloween Carnival on Saturday, Oct. 27. Sponsored by Partners In Education, the event included a costume contest, games, prizes and refreshments. About 350 children and families attended this year’s event.
