Community invited to review new textbooks

Maple Lake School District is adopting new resources for the world history class as well as the psychology class. Copies of the texts can be previewed by community members during the week of June 4 through June 8. If anyone would like to come in and look at the texts, they can stop in the district office to preview them.

MLHS Commencement is June 1

Commencement for the MLHS Class of 2012 is set for 8 p.m. on Friday, June 1, in the high school gym. Areas will be reserved for ticket holders and all other seats will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis. The student speaker will be Senior Class President Zack Schaunaman. The commencement speaker will be MLHS teacher Dave Hansen. The school year also ends Friday, June 1.

6th grade graduation on May 31

Maple Lake Elementary invites parents to its graduation ceremony for the sixth graders on Thursday, May 31. The ceremony will take place in the high school auditorium starting at 1:15 p.m., followed by refreshments in the elementary cafeteria.

Maple Lake Elem. Track and Field on May 25

Maple Lake Elementary will host Track & Field Day on Friday, May 25, at the Irish Country Stadium. There will be a morning session from 8:30-11:00 a.m. and an afternoon session from 11:45-2:30 p.m. During the morning session, grades 1-3 will compete in running events while grades 4-6 perform field events. In the afternoon, grades 1-3 will move to the field events while grades 4-6 will compete in the running events.

No School on Memorial Day

There will be no classes at St. Timothy’s School or Maple Lake Public Schools on Monday, May 28, for the observance of Memorial Day. Classes will resume on Tuesday, May 29.

St. Tim's 8th grade graduation on May 30

St. Timothy’s School will be hosting a graduation ceremony for the eighth graders on Wednesday, May 30. The eighth grade graduation Mass will begin at 7:00 p.m., with a cake and ice cream reception to follow.

Senior Awards Night set for May 30

The senior class at Maple Lake High School will be honored at Senior Awards Night on Wednesday, May 30, starting at 7:30 p.m. in the auditorium. A variety of awards and scholarships will be presented at the ceremony, followed by a reception for seniors and their parents.

Sue (Ursula) Perra, Waverly

Sue (Ursula) Perra, age 87, of Waverly passed away Monday, June 4, 2012. Born on December 13, 1924, to Albina and Joseph Antil, she was the oldest of three girls, with five brothers. As a young, single girl she worked at the Maple Lake drug store and waitressed at Ogle’s Café in Waverly. She met Ed Perra of Waverly and they were married on September 25, 1946. Their nearly 66 years of marriage were spent working the Perra family farm and raising a family of six. Sue was a hard worker and took great pride in working the land and tending the dairy herd side-by-side with Ed. She is preceded in death by her parents, brothers: Vic, Jimmy, Art, Jerry and Frank; and daughter, Elaine Luhman.
