Sue (Ursula) Perra, Waverly

Sue (Ursula) Perra, age 87, of Waverly passed away Monday, June 4, 2012. Born on December 13, 1924, to Albina and Joseph Antil, she was the oldest of three girls, with five brothers. As a young, single girl she worked at the Maple Lake drug store and waitressed at Ogle’s Café in Waverly. She met Ed Perra of Waverly and they were married on September 25, 1946. Their nearly 66 years of marriage were spent working the Perra family farm and raising a family of six. Sue was a hard worker and took great pride in working the land and tending the dairy herd side-by-side with Ed. She is preceded in death by her parents, brothers: Vic, Jimmy, Art, Jerry and Frank; and daughter, Elaine Luhman.

Thomas D. Slinde, Waverly

Thomas D. Slinde, age 65, of Annandale, died Thursday, June 7, 2012, at North Memorial Medical Center. Visitation was from 4-7 p.m. with Memorial Services held at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, June 12, at the Dingmann Funeral Care Chapel, Annandale, with Pastor Daniel Brodin officiating. Interment was at 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, June 13, at Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis. Memorials are preferred to the Minnesota Stroke Association or Maple Lake VFW Post 7664. Thomas Dean Slinde was born December 27, 1946, in Albert Lea to the late Udene and Eldora (Loken) Slinde. He was a 1964 graduate of Albert Lea High School and then enlisted in the military as a member of the U.S. Navy. He married Susan Hawkinson on August 27, 1971, in Minneapolis and they lived in the Twin Cities, Maple Lake, Annandale, St. Michael and most recently back in the Annandale area on Lake Sylvia. From 1990-2007 he worked as a sales manager for R.M. Johnson Company of Annandale.

Leo E. Koshiol, St. Augusta

Mass of Christian Burial celebrating the life of Leo E. Koshiol, 76, of St. Augusta will be at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, June 18, 2012, at St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church in St. Augusta. Leo passed away on Monday, June 11, at Quiet Oaks Hospice House in St. Augusta surrounded by family. Reverend Robert Rolfes will officiate. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Relatives and friends may call between 4:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. on Sunday and after 9:30 a.m. on Monday both at St. Mary Help of Christians Parish Center. Parish prayers will be at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday at the parish center. Arrangements are with Daniel Funeral Home, St. Cloud. Leo was born on January 22, 1936, in Luxemburg, Minnesota to John and Adeline (Beumer) Koshiol. He graduated from Technical High School and served in the U.S. Army. Leo married Barbara A. Mavencamp on October 24, 1959, at St. Timothy’s Catholic Church in Maple Lake. He lived all of his married life in St.

Howard 'Howie' Linstrand, Le Mars

Howard “Howie” Linstrand, 85, of Le Mars, formerly of Maple Lake, Minnesota, passed away Saturday, June 2, 2012, at the Good Samaritan Society in Le Mars, Iowa. His funeral was at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 5, 2012, at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Brunsville, Iowa with Pastor Ben Worley officiating. Interment with military honors provided by the Herren-McHale-Wilken American Legion Post of Brunsville was at Memorial Cemetery in Le Mars. Pallbearers were Scott Linstrand, Todd Bates, Tom Linstrand, Warren Bielke, Richard Erdahl, and John Swisher. Honorary casket bearers were Bob Linstrand, David Linstrand, Johnny Rudberg, Diane Pike, Janet Salmey, Carrie Linstrand, and Tanya Bates. Visitation was from 9 a.m. until service time at the church. Arrangements were with the Carlsen Funeral Home of Le Mars. Expressions of sympathy can be extended to the family through www.carlsenfuneralhome.com.

Community invited to review new textbooks

Maple Lake School District is adopting new resources for the world history class as well as the psychology class. Copies of the texts can be previewed by community members during the week of June 4 through June 8. If anyone would like to come in and look at the texts, they can stop in the district office to preview them.

Joseph R. Lantto, Buffalo

Joseph R. Lantto, age 69, passed away on Monday, June 11, 2012, at University of Minnesota Medical Center-Fairview, Minneapolis, MN after a lengthy but courageous battle with leukemia. Joseph was born in St. Cloud, the son of George and Irene (Forare) Lantto. He was baptized and confirmed at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, French Lake. Joe graduated from Annandale High School and Northwest Technical College. He worked as a draftsman/CAD operator for Electric Machinery in Minneapolis for 3 years and Wright-Hennepin Cooperative Electric Association in Rockford for 34 ½ years when he retired. Joseph Lantto and Marcia Peterson were married on April 11, 1964, at Zion Lutheran Church in Buffalo, by Pastor Andrew Cornell. Joe joined Zion Church and was an usher for many years. He also became a Stephan minister. Joe changed his life in 1978 when he completed a recovery program at St. Mary’s Hospital and maintained his sobriety for the rest of his life.
