Jude receives Winona Community Service Award from Saint Mary's University

Jacinta Jude, daughter of Peter and Anna Maria Jude, of Maple Lake, received the Winona Community Service Award from Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota. She was also nominated for the Outstanding Senior Award.

Denton "Bob" Randall, Maple Lake

Denton “Bob” Randall, age 69, of Maple Lake passed away at the Buffalo Hospital on June 2, 2013. A memorial service will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 6, at the Peterson Chapel in Buffalo. Visitation will be one hour prior to service at the funeral home. Bob was born on July 4, 1943, to Denton and Flora (Tate) Randall in St. Peter. He was a police officer for the Minneapolis Police Department for 26 years. He drove for M & M Bus Co. in Maple Lake for nine years. He enjoyed NHRA and riding his motorcycle. He loved his Husky dogs. He is survived by daughters, Lisa (Bruce) Hillier and Tracey Weber (fiancé, Scott Gray); grandchildren, Mitchell Weber, Cory and Kara Hillier; sister, Elizabeth (Nat) Flores; girlfriend, Gina Sapp, and her sons, Thomas and Cody Bakka. The Peterson Chapel in Buffalo is in charge of arrangements.

Maple Lakers named to SCSU Dean's List

Seven students from Maple Lake have been named to the St. Cloud State University Dean’s List. They include undecided major Megan Bruns; Hillary Hogan, a marketing manager at the Herberger Business School; Jennifer Paumen, a psychology major at the College of Liberal Arts; undecided major Anna Spielmann; Karen Trettin, a community psychology major at the School of Health and Human Services; Naomi Yanta, a biomedical sciences major at the College of Science and Engineering; and Sara Zahler, a special education major at the School of Education.

Riley Decker, of Maple Lake, has been named to the Southwest Minnesota State University Dean’s List with honors for earning a grade point average between 3.5 and 3.79.

Renier graduates from College of St. Benedict

Jeana Christine Renier, daughter of Joe and Connie Renier, of Maple Lake, participated in commencement at the College of Saint Benedict. Renier is a candidate to receive a bachelor of arts degree in nutrition with the honor magna cum laude. Magna cum laude indicates a cumulative grade point average of 3.75. The 2013 CSB graduating class includes 514 undergraduate women. When combined with Saint John's University's 409 undergraduate men, this year's combined undergraduate graduating class totals 923.

Arnold N. and Lila J. Spike, Maple Lake

Arnold N., age 81, and Lila J. (Debner) Spike, age 76, of Maple Lake and formerly of rural Buffalo, passed away recently from injuries received in an automobile accident. Marie A. Wurm, Maple Lake

Marie A. Wurm, age 86, of Maple Lake died Saturday, June 1, 2013, at the Buffalo Hospital. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 7, at St. Timothy’s Catholic Church, Maple Lake, with Fr. John Meyer officiating. Burial will follow at St. Timothy’s Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. Thursday and 9-10 a.m. Friday at the Dingmann Funeral Care Chapel, Maple Lake. There will be a prayer service 7 p.m. Thursday. Marie Alma Wurm was born April 19, 1927, to James and Rose (Loesch) Holthaus at Pearl Lake where she attended country school through eighth grade. She married Timothy Wurm on August 30, 1951, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Buffalo, and he preceded her in death on August 17, 2003. Marie was a farm homemaker and was a member of St. Timothy’s Church and Council of Catholic Women. She enjoyed her family, farming, gardening, sewing, cooking, and baking.

Francis C. "Ozzie" Logeais, Annandale

Francis C. “Ozzie” Logeais, age 78, of Annandale, died Monday, June 17, 2013, at the St. Cloud Hospital. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 21, 2013, at St. Ignatius Catholic Church in Annandale with Fr. Victor Valencia and Fr. Mark Pavlik as the Celebrants. Burial will follow at St. Ignatius Catholic Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday and one hour prior to the service, both at the church. Parish prayers will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at the church. Francis Canute “Ozzie” Logeais was born Aug. 20, 1934, in Annandale, to Canute and Lillian (Dircks) Logeais. He attended Annandale High School and graduated with the Class of 1952. Ozzie worked for his father at Canute Logeais & Sons in Annandale until Ozzie and his brother, Jim, purchased the company. They owned and operated the company as Logeais Oil. He was a member of St. Ignatius Catholic Church and of the Fr. O’Brien’s Council Knights of Columbus #11345.
