The state released graduation rates for districts this week. The Maple Lake Class of 2021 rate was 94.2%, while the state rate was 83.3%. While there is always work to do, Maple Lake did amazing! Hats off to our students, staff, & families for preparing our students for the future!

Over the last 5 years, Maple Lake’s graduation rate average is 95%!

Maple Lake High School hosted Section 4A Speech Meet yesterday. The IRISH finished 2nd place as a team for the second year in a row! Maple Lake had 9 qualify for the finals, and 5 members advanced to the state meet on April 23.

Advancing to the state meet are Jude and Hayes in duo (3rd), Calli Hadler in Oratory (2nd), section champion Anna McClelland on great Speeches, and section champion Greta Brown in X speaking.

The other finalists: Alyssa, 6th, info; Cadence, 6th, drama; Aidan, 6th, Creative Expression; Makkal, 5th, Great Speeches, and Isaac, 5th, ex reading.

8.A. March 31, 2022, Enrollment Figures: 778.2

8.B. Activities Update – Dan Krause thanked the board for the new eligibility policy.  The conference met with Superintendents last week and talked about taking a proactive approach with instilling leadership and sportsmanship in participants.  May be starting a conference website to promote our kids and schools. Krause and Haney are developing an informational activities booklet.  Purchasing a music program to be used with the new sound system that will create a game day atmosphere.  Participation numbers for spring sports are up.

8.C. Fitness Center Update -Rowe reviewed the Irish Facility use policy.  Fobbe has been cleaning and organizing the facility to ready it for an Open House planned for April 26.  Fees will be $25/mo or $200/year.

8.D. Approve Co-op agreement with Holy Spirit Academy for activities starting in the fall of 2022. This motion, made by Joe Paumen and seconded by Bill Neumann, Passed.

9.A.  March Food Service Update-Rowe reported sales in March: 5,625 breakfasts, 11,338 lunches and $8,546.85 in ala carte.

9.B.  Transportation Quotation and Update-Rowe said one quotation was received and will begin negotiations next week.

9.C. Motion to approve Parking Lot project with base bid of 18″ sub cut for front lot with back lot improvements contingent on funds. This motion, made by Bill Neumann and seconded by Lowell Benson, Passed.

9.D. Legislative Updates: Rowe talked about the HF4300 Education spending plan, special education cross subsidies, VPK and other supports being discussed.

9.E. April State of the School -Rowe talked about building improvements coming that include a high school gym sound system (donated), new flag pole, new bottle filler, high school locker painting, parking lot, updates to Foods classroom.  Completed projects included replacing auditorium curtains and new logoed paper towel dispensers installed.  Irish Mentors will do vaping presentations for 5th-8th grade and drug and alcohol awareness for 9-12. Maple Lake received a grant for $87,535.25 for K-12 summer learning.  VPK application was accepted.

10.A. District Leadership Team-None

10.B. ECFE/Community Education – Helmbrecht talked about the fitness center being prepared for opening.  Enrichment activities had over 20 classes with most of them at capacity.  Registration is open for summer ball.  Gymnastics classes and “Lil’ Ninja” classes are full with waitlists.  42 preschool kids are registered for fall.

10.C. Food Service Committee-None

10.D. Meeker and Wright Special Ed Co-Op-Carlson said they toured Westside Alternative.  They have filled 2 psychologist positions.

10.E. Minnesota State High School League-Helmbrecht reported that MSHSL is adding a 1/2 day for wrestling.  2022-23 projected dates have been approved.

10.F. Safe Schools Committee-None

10.G. Technology Committee-Mavencamp reported that nearly all of the staff technology requests will be filled.

10.H. Wright Technical Center- Benson reported that WTC will hold its plant sale 4/29-5/14.   WTC will be offering EMT course.

10.I.  Elementary School – Sawatzke reported the Clubs Choice fundraiser finished up on March 25. Elementary MCA testing began last week.  Late start in April will have teachers working in their PLCs.  Irish Pride celebration will celebrate students of the month who demonstrated honesty and staff of the month.  The 6th grade concert will take place April 19 and 5th grade will be on April 26-both begin at 7 pm in the high school auditorium.

10.J. High School – Hansen reported that guest speaker Victoria Powell delivered a very direct message regarding bullying and cyber responsibility.  High School is in full swing of MCA testing.  Prom will be on April 23.  Working on setting up a date for Co-Curricular.  Maple Lake has multiple students participating at the state Speech meet.  Scholarship committee is meeting.  Hiring a special education teacher.
