Girls golf: Irish take second twice


The Irish girls took second place at the Dassel-Cokato invitational and in their last Central Minnesota Conference meet at Kimball Country Club.

 

Following a Dassel-Cokato invitational at Albion Ridges, where the Irish ladies took second and senior Tabitha Latzig was the meet medalist, the ladies competed in their last conference meet at Kimball Country Club.
Senior Maggie Carey led the Irish for the meet with 45 strokes. Behind her was Latzig with a 46.
The remaining Irish golfers scored as follows: junior Vienna Jude – 51, senior Kirsten Kubian – 51, senior Kristina Paumen – 56 and freshman Ashlee Martie 65.
With the top four scores combined, the Irish left the course with 193 strokes, just behind Osakis, who shot a combined 169. Behind the Irish was Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted with a combined 222.

Irish boys hope to keep golfing

 

On Tuesday, May 20, the Irish boys golf team had the opportunity to play at their home course, Albion Ridges.
Leading the team were sophomores Aidan Jude and Brandon Borell who each shot 42. Also scoring in the top four for the Irish team were senior Jay Elsenpeter, who scored a 45, and Peyton Beehler, who shot a 50.
The top four scores landed the Irish in second place for the meet with a combined score of 179 only behind Rockford, who shot a combined 166.
"We played ok, we were able to come in second place at the meet and remain in third overall in the conference,” coach Aaron Hegle said. "We need to start hitting our stride because sections is right around the corner and I think a couple of guys are starting to find their swing."

Irish girls golfers take second at home meet

 

On Tuesday, May 13, the Maple Lake Irish girls’golf team participated in their sixth conference meet of the season, which was held on their home golf course, Albion Ridges.
Leading Maple Lake was senior Tabitha Latzig who shot a 42. With that low score, Latzig was able to place second behind Osakis eighth grader Alayna Eldred.
Behind Latzig for the Irish was junior Vienna Jude who shot a 47. Kirsten Kubian and Maggie Carey rounded out the top four for the Irish, with a 50 and 51, respectively.

Irish boys golfers bounce back at Osakis

 

On Thursday, May 15, the Irish boys golf team traveled to Pierz Golf Course, where they played in their fourth meet of the season. 
Placing first at the Pierz meet were Ty Griffin and Brody Harstad, both from Rockford, who each shot 40s. 
Sophomore Brandon Borell led the Irish team with 43 strokes. Behind Borell for the Irish were sophomore Aidan Jude and senior Jason Pomije who shot 47 and 48, respectively.
Finishing up for the Irish were Jordan Mills with 50 strokes and Jay Elsenpeter and Peyton Beehle,r who each shot 51.
"We didn't play very well today,” said coach Aaron Hegle. “We don't play very well at Pierz for some reason and it’s all mental but we just can't score very well there.”

Lakers start season with three victories

 

It was a cold night Wednesday as the Maple Lake Lakers opened the season against the defending Class C State Champion Sartell Muskies.  
Originally scheduled for Laker stadium, the game was played in Sartell due to field conditions.  
The Lakers scored early and often, with almost every Laker batter getting a hit and a run.  
Dusty Decker stole the show when he hit the first homerun of the year. 
 Jeremy Schmidt started on the mound and pitched four innings, giving up one earned run and Ben Jungers finished the last five innings for the win.
