Fire Report:

Fire destroyed a ‘95 Gleaner harvester near County Road 37 and Gunderson Ave. N.W. Oct. 23rd at approximately 6:07 p.m.

The Gleaner belonged to Brad Paumen and was being operated by his father, Don, who was combining soybeans. According to a Maple Lake Volunteer fireman, who responded to the 911 page, the combine was totally engulfed in flames when they arrived. An effort was made by Don Paumen to extinguish the fire with the on-board fire extinguisher. According to reports he nearly had the fire out, but didn’t have enough fluid to complete the task.

The combine was termed a total loss with an estimated value of nearly $100,000.00. Also lost were about 100 bushels of beans. Nineteen firemen responded to the page. Contrary to rumors, no children were riding with Paumen.

The Fire Department’s ambulance responded as follows:

Oct. 25, 12:52 p.m.: Patient was taken to Buffalo ER with breathing difficulties.    Oct. 25, 5:44 p.m.: Patient taken to Buffalo ER following a fall in the Centennial Villa Apts., Annandale. Annandale’s Fire and Rescue personnel had the patient on a backboard with a c-collar and head block in place when Maple Lake’s ambulance arrived.

Oct. 26, 5:49 p.m.: Patient with accidental knife wound declined transportation.

Oct. 26, 7:40 p.m.: Patient taken to the Buffalo ER for medical treatment.

Oct. 27, 9:53 a.m.: Patient taken to the Buffalo ER for treatment of a possible stroke.    Oct. 27, 4:21 p.m.: Darren Bjorklund, 29, Annandale, was injured in an ATV roll-over at County Road 7 and 63rd Street N.W. He was taken to the Buffalo ER with lacerations and bruises.  A rescue squad of five Maple Lake firemen also assisted at the accident.
