Christmas break did wonders for Maple Lake gymnasts who are starting to get back to normal after being plagued by sickness and injury earlier in the season. On Tuesday, Jan. 3, the Irish hosted the Class 7A Monticello with a line-up that is almost back to what it used to be.
Despite a 132.15 to 122.65 loss to the larger school, the Irish came away with two-second place finishes, two thirds, two fourths and a fifth by the time the meet was through.
Gracie Elsenpeter snagged the two second-place finishes with her performances on the bars and the floor. She earned an 8.3 from judges on the bars and an 8.575 for her dynamic floor routine. Her performances that night also earned her third place in the all-around with a total score of 33.1.
