Glen Wurm receives state coaching honor

Glen Wurm, son of Lawrence and Carol Wurm of Maple Lake, was named as Assistant Coach of the Year after his Woodbury girls basketball team captured the state 4A title on Saturday.

Wurm, a 1988 graduate of Maple Lake High School, was honored by the Coaches Association in the selection of All-State teams and coaches after the conclusion of the state tournament. Coach of the Year in Class 4A was Woodbury’s state final opponent, Eastview’s Paul Goetz.

Woodbury concluded a perfect season at 29-0 when it defeated a tough Eastview team which recorded only one previous loss before the state title game. Wurm’s squad used a strong defense to win the championship with a 61-42 win. The Royals dominated the game from the start, holding Eastview to only 26 points over three quarters.  Head coach for the Woodbury Royals is Dave Preller.

Along with Wurm, four of Woodbury’s players were named to the All-Tournament Team: Lacy Gram, Katie Kirley, Amanda Nisleit and Katie Tacheny.
