Fire Report

Emergency responses by the Volunteer Maple Lake Fire Department and Ambulance Service were as follows during the past week:

April 13, 8:41 a.m.: Grass fire at 2161 66th St. NW, Maple Lake Twp., Karen Norell residence. Fire, apparently from the previous evening’s bonfire, spread to a brushy area, eventually threatening the house. Firefighters had the fire out in about 30 minutes, but it rekindled several logs in the blackened area in the afternoon’s high winds. Nineteen firefighters responsed at approximately 2:30 p.m. and extinguished the fire.

April 13, 5:25 p.m.: Mutual aid for the Buffalo Fire Department at a grass fire at 2045 Colbert Ave. NW, in Maple Lake Twp. Twenty-five firefighters responded for standby status.

April 12, 3:02 p.m.: Fire destroyed a storage shed at the Preston Van Schepen residence, 8523 Baker Ave. N.W., Maple Lake Twp. The firefighters determined the fire was a result of direct sunrays shining through plate glass, igniting leaves, which in turn started the structure on fire. Twenty-seven firefighters spent 2 1/2 hours at the scene. The building and contents were valued at approximately $27,500.

Ambulance responses were as follows:    April 12, 4:06 p.m.: Patient with seizures was transported by the Allina Health Systems to the Buffalo Hospital ER in a dual response.

April 10, 10:12 p.m.: Motorcycle accident near 9191 County Road 8, north of County Road 39. Lawrence Paumen, 44, was transported by air ambulance to North Hennepin Hospital from the Maple Lake Public School parking lot where the transfer was made from the local ambulance.
