Boys take third at Kimball meet

At the Pierz golf course on Friday, May 21, the Irish girls’ golf team played their final CMC match of the year. Maple Lake placed sixth out of seven teams. Tying for first was K-EV-W and Rockford, with 178; then was Osakis, 184; Pierz, 201; B-B-E, 208; Maple Lake 210; and HL-W, 234. 
Individual scores were as follows: Emily Carey, 48; Tabitha Latzig, 54; Maggie Carey, 54; Gretchen Menne, 54; Kirstin Kubian, 57; Annie Schwede, 57; and Ashley Becker, 58.
In the CMC the Irish placed fifth place out of six teams. Osakis won with a running total of 1,285, then came Rockford, 1,340; K-EV-E, 1,344; Pierz, 1,440; Maple Lake, 1469; and B-B-E; 1,518. 
“I'm glad we didn't take last, but I am going to work really hard over the summer to make sure our standings improve next season,” said Maple Lake golfer Annie Schwede. 
 The boys’ golf team also finished up conference play this past week. On Thursday, May 20, the boys were at Kimball, where they took third place. Dom Lauer got a 44; Colton Jones, 45; Mark Meyer, 46; Trevor Borell, 47; Josh Hogan, 48; Thomas Carriveau, 54; Gary Welch, 57; and Logan Gries, at his very first varsity meet, got a 61. Lauer, Jones, Meyer, and Borell combined their scores for a 182. 
Pierz placed first with 167; B-B-E, 180; Maple Lake, 182; Osakis, 183; HL-W, 185; K-EV-W, 189; and Rockford, 192.
In conference standings, the Irish boys were in last place, but only by five strokes. Pierz was first with 1,197; B-B-E, 1,249; Osakis, 1,272; K-EV-W, 1,297; Rockford, 1,315; and Maple Lake 1,320. 
“Maple Lake finished the season strong. There were some good individual performances and I look forward to watching them play at section,” said Coach Jeff Kubian.
 On Friday, May 21, the boys’ golf team went to an 18-hole invite at the Crow River Country Club. Though there were a few clouds, the team ended up enjoying one of their last invites of the season.
Individually, the team performed well, with scores as follows: Dom Lauer, 98; Colton Jones, 99; Evan Kadlec, 103; Josh Hogan, 104; Mark Meyer, 107; and Trevor Borell, 110. Due to incomplete results, not all the teams’ scores and placings were known. 
Scores included: N-YA, 347; Paynesville, 354; Hutchinson, 355; H-L, 378; Maple Lake, 397; and Kimball, 398.
