Cross country does well in big Litchfield meet

by Sally Krutzig
The cross country meet on Thursday, October 7, at the Litchfield Invitational, was big, with even bigger schools there. This left Maple Lake, one of the smaller schools, at a disadvantage.
“For having such big competitors, we did pretty good,” said senior Kristin Wohlrabe. “Most importantly, we stuck together as a team this meet.”
The boys placed ninth out of 10 teams participating. For the Irish, Greg Dorow finished just 18.52 minutes after the race had started, earning 38th place. In 45th, Danny Becker was next with a time of 19.11. After that, Cullen Gallagher came in 50th place at 20.38. Then Sullivan Graham, at a time of 20.04, crossed the finish line, earning him 60th place. Ben Thiele came in 61st at 20.34. Following Thiele was Kevin Salveson in 62nd place with a time of 20.38. The final Maple Lake runner was Michael Thomas, with a time of 21.01, in 67th place.
The girls placed a little lower, which is understandable considering there were 12 teams competing. Hannah Haegele finished 34th overall, with her time of 17.49. Kristin Wohlrabe, placing 35th, was right behind her at 17.56. Next came Mollie Graham, in 53rd place, at 18.43. At 18.55, Kayla Hoisted followed soon after in 59th place. Then was Alyssa Redemske, with her time of 19.08, allowing her to place 61st. Maddie Gagnon in 63rd place was the next Maple Lake runner, at 19.11. Hannah Klug finished at 19.18, in 64th place.
On Tuesday, the Irish cross country teams had one of their most important meets of the year: the Central Minnesota Conference meet. Those results will appear in next week’s Messenger.
