MLHS speech season ends quietly at sections

The Maple Lake High School speech team wrapped up their 2013 campaign with sub-section and section competitions. While no speakers advanced to the state meet at Blaine (April 19) this past weekend, many speakers did place: At subsection, April 4, at Tri-Cities United High School in Montgomery, placing for the Irish were: Maddie Nelson, discussion, first alternate; Dylan Schlueter, discussion, fifth place; Jenna Anderson and Amber Dale, duos, second place; Charlie Stejskal, extemporaneous speaking, second place; Brooke Ankerfelt, great speeches, fifth place; Maria Zaske, great speeches, first alternate; and Melissa Timmers, storytelling, second alternate. At section competition, April 9 at Belle Plaine, placing for the Irish were: Maddie Nelson, discussion, fifth place; Charlie Stejskal, extemporaneous speaking, fourth place; and Maria Zaske, great speeches, sixth place.
